Hueber Verlag GmbH & Co KG is privately owned by Michaela and Max Hueber, the grandchildren of Max Hueber, who founded the company in 1921.
Hueber was the first publisher to develop materials for the teaching of German as a Foreign Language (1955). Hueber is now the largest German as a Foreign Language publisher in the world. Every year, many thousands of teachers and students make use of Hueber course books and materials from primary school to university level. Through their efficient network of information centres, representatives, subsidiaries and distributors around the world, Hueber can ensure timely delivery of course books and support for teachers and students alike.
As well as publishing German as a Foreign Language materials, Hueber is famous for their course books in more than 30 languages. Hueber’s close contact with foreign language teachers and international publishers enables the company to develop materials that enjoy enormous success in the foreign language classroom, including main course books, supplementary materials, readers, dictionaries, language practice books and materials for self-tuition. Hueber also offers a complete range of materials developed to prepare for recognised examinations set by national and international bodies.
Hueber's publications in the areas of applied linguistics and methodology cover the major topics of current interest in foreign language teaching.
In the course of the last 80 years Hueber’s reputation for state-of-the-art language learning and teaching materials has earned the company market leadership in the adult education sector, not only in Germany, but also in Austria and Switzerland. At present the company has 150 employees in Germany alone.
Hueber has also made every effort to meet the needs of a rapidly growing New Media market. Besides offering software programmes to accompany major textbooks, Hueber has recently developed E-Learning language courses for institutional and b2b markets.
